This project involved the full renovation of a private apartment located in a historic building in Barcelona’s Eixample district, with the aim of creating a contemporary living space while preserving and enhancing the building’s original architectural character.

The intervention covered interior architecture, spatial reconfiguration, kitchen and bathroom design, bespoke storage solutions, materials selection, and lighting design. The result is an elegant and functional home where architectural heritage and modern comfort coexist naturally.

The comprehensive renovation included a complete reconfiguration of all interior spaces, maintaining a continuous dialogue with the building’s original architecture. The project focused on enhancing spatial openness, natural light, and visual continuity, adapting the apartment to the needs of contemporary living.

Design Approach

The design strategy sought a balance between respect for the existing structure and a contemporary architectural language, preserving characteristic elements such as exposed brick walls, original proportions, and generous ceiling heights.

Key design principles included:

  • Reorganizing the layout to improve flow between spaces
  • Highlighting original structural elements, integrating them into the new design
  • Designing bespoke furniture to optimize storage while reinforcing visual coherence

Kitchen and Living Areas

The kitchen was conceived as one of the central hubs of the home, fully integrated into the living areas and designed for both everyday use and social interaction.

Key features of this space include:

  • A central island acting as an organizational and social element
  • A refined combination of stone, wood, and metal finishes
  • Carefully designed technical and ambient lighting to enhance the overall atmosphere

The day areas were designed as open, bright, and connected spaces, reinforcing both functional and visual continuity.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

Private areas were designed as calm, balanced environments, offering a more intimate and restful atmosphere.

In these spaces, priority was given to:

  • The use of warm materials and soft textures
  • Integrated storage solutions
  • A restrained and timeless bathroom design, using stone surfaces and matte finishes

Materials and Atmosphere

The apartment is defined by a balanced and timeless material palette, combining:

  • Natural wood
  • Stone and mineral surfaces
  • Matte finishes
  • Warm, neutral tones

This careful selection creates a sense of quiet elegance, allowing the original architecture to coexist seamlessly with contemporary design.

The Result

The outcome is a sophisticated and functional home where the building’s historic identity is combined with modern living solutions. A space designed for everyday life that balances character, comfort, and durability, offering a coherent and long-lasting residential environment.
